Clean House + Clean Heart

As Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, I am reminded of stories of couples carving their name + their loved one’s name on the outside of a tree to represent the two belonging together.  February is a celebration of love, romance, and hearts.  What would our lives be like if we combined our desires and goals for a clean house with a desire for clean heart?

The Psalmist King David wrote:  “Create in me a clean heart, O God” (Psalm 51:10).  We may or may not need assistance with cleaning our homes, but we must have assistance with cleaning our hearts.  God is the only one that can truly help us have a clean heart.  We just need to sincerely ask Him to clean our hearts.  Let us look at a few other things scripture has to say about our hearts.

“A heart at peace gives life to the body” (Proverbs 14:30)

“A happy heart makes the face cheerful” (Proverbs 15:13)

“the cheerful heart has a continual feast” (Proverbs 15:15)

“A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Proverbs 17:22)

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh”. (Ezekiel 36:26)

As we focus on cleaning our homes, let us also focus on cleaning our hearts.  As we purge the clutter, the dirt, and unwanted things in our homes let us ask God to apply this to our hearts.   The peace and freedom that comes from a clean home, is even more prevalent with a clean heart.

TIP: One way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with our loved ones with a focus on hearts is to make a heart shaped cake or quiche.   This is a fun project that can be done with your kids.   Use any recipe that calls for a 9” x 13” cake pan or two round or two square cake pans.  Pour half of your recipe in a 9” square pan and half into a 9” round cake pan.  Bake per instructions.  Once baked, cut the round  in half.  Remove your cake or quiche from the pans.  Position the square as a diamond on your serving board; then place each of the two halves of the round cake or quiche on the top two sides of the diamond.  Decorate with icing, cheese, etc. and enjoy!!!
